We all need to breathe to survive. That’s a given. Have you ever thought about how intimately linked respiratory function and postural control are? Here are some of the things we do every day that require those two systems to work together in a coordinated fashion: breathing, coughing, sleeping, eating, talking and moving. That’s quite a list! Additionally, our social-emotional well-being is linked to breathing. Think about how we often hold our breath when we are anxious, nervous, or stressed. Mindful breathing can be a very calming influence. This presentation will include practical information that can be used at any age. An overview of how the respiratory system works will be interwoven with how it is an integral part of posture, movement, the ability to speak, and overall well-being. Be ready to participate and find out how amazingly connected the human body systems are!
